The mounts of the palm: what the raised areas of your hand mean
The mounts are the fleshy raised areas of the palm, each named after a planet: Jupiter, Saturn, Sun and Mercury below the four fingers, Venus at the base of the thumb, Moon on the lower outer palm, and Mars in between. Palmistry reads a full, firm mount as strength in that quality and a flat one as a quieter side of your nature. The mount of Venus is the main mount for love.
Where the 7 mounts are and what they show
- Mount of Jupiter (below the index finger): ambition, leadership and self-confidence.
- Mount of Saturn (below the middle finger): responsibility, patience and a serious, thoughtful side.
- Mount of Sun or Apollo (below the ring finger): creativity, success and a love of beauty.
- Mount of Mercury (below the little finger): communication, business sense and wit. The marriage lines lie on its edge.
- Mount of Venus (at the base of the thumb, inside the life line): love, warmth, attraction and energy.
- Mount of Moon (the lower outer palm, opposite the thumb): imagination, intuition and a love of travel.
- Mounts of Mars (above the thumb and on the outer edge, with the plain of Mars between them): courage, drive and staying power.
How to read a mount
- Full and firm: that quality is strong and active in your nature.
- Flat: that quality is quieter, and other strengths lead.
- Very high: that quality can be strong enough to need balance.
- Leaning toward a neighbouring mount: the two qualities work together.
- A sign on a mount (a star, cross, triangle or square) adds to its reading. Our guide to signs on the palm explains each one.
The mounts and love
For love and marriage, readers look first at the mount of Venus. A full, rosy mount of Venus is read as warmth, affection and strong attraction, and a flatter one as a calmer, more reserved way of loving. The mount of Mercury holds the marriage lines, and the mount of Jupiter is read for the ideals you look for in a partner. The mount of Moon is linked with romantic imagination.
Mounts in Indian palmistry
Indian hast rekha shastra reads the same planets: Guru (Jupiter), Shani (Saturn), Surya (Sun), Budh (Mercury), Shukra (Venus), Chandra (Moon) and Mangal (Mars), and some traditions also read areas for Rahu and Ketu in the middle of the palm. Mounts are read together with the lines that start or end on them.
The Palmkara full report does the same: its whole-palm section reads all seven mounts through your lines, such as the curve of the life line for the mount of Venus and the reach of the heart line for the mount of Jupiter.
